Labor shortages are a concern across many industries. The workforce pool continues to shrink as baby boomers retire and the birth rate declines. To further complicate the issue, specialized skills and technical training are now necessary for most entry-level positions in many industries.
Typically, these skill sets cannot be acquired in a traditional university setting. Therefore, it becomes critical that industry organizations and the companies within those organizations partner with other types of educational institutions to develop relevant training programs. Workforce development efforts are gaining traction, supported by industry participants and economic development activities throughout the U.S.
In June, Exhibitus had the opportunity to follow its commitment for workforce development by designing an experience for NAPA Auto Parts at SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference. This is the largest gathering of America’s future skilled workforce and the ultimate recognition of excellence in career and technical education.
A highlight of the conference was a large technical education trade show floor and activation zone. The activation zone provided NAPA with the opportunity to promote auto technology to young people looking for career opportunities beyond high school that do not require a college degree.
The NAPA experience included physical demos where student attendees learned to change spark plugs and tires, as well as operate electronic auto-status technology. NAPA representatives answered questions about opportunities in the auto repair industry and promoted the benefits of these rewarding careers.
The EDPA (Experiential Designers and Producers Association) is the network for leaders in the customer experience industry. Exhibitus is a proud participant in the EDPA’s Future Workforce initiative. Vice President of Creative, Matt Beck, and Vice President of Marketing & Results Strategy, Lynn Reves, both serve on the national steering committee for this project on the institution and trade sides, respectively.
Closer to home, Exhibitus has initiated two programs internally to encourage awareness in the experiential marketing industry. In 2023, the Company introduced the Exhibitus Scholarship for students of design and in 2024, an internship program was started. National promotions for these two initiatives created a significant wave of inbound interest, confirming awareness and excitement around career opportunities in the experiential marketing industry.
The future of the experiential marketing industry depends on its ability to attract a wide variety of creative talent, as well as skilled craftsmen for complex fabrication. The Company is committed to the support of workforce development efforts internally, as well as the important initiatives of organizations, partners and clients working to ensure a robust economy picture ahead.
